Last Night A Caterer Saved My Life

This is a long overdue post.  The title says last night, but technically, it was 3 weeks ago.

I hosted a family dinner at my house and the night before the dinner, the food arrangements all changed.  I realized at midnight, the eve of the dinner, that I had no food to put on the dinner table.

Panic set in.  My backyard was all dressed up, and had nowhere to go.

There was no way to cancel and I contacted several restaurants the next morning but unfortunately, it was too early for them to be open. I wanted a menu that was different and delicious.  A friend recommended BerrisCatering - and though I never ordered from them before, I did try their food and it was really good.

The person behind BerrisCatering is a wonderful woman named Nadine.  We spoke at 10am, I explained to her that the dinner was that same evening, and it was an early dinner too - so food had to be ready by 7pm!  Could I have made it more difficult for her?  And allow me to elaborate - that she was so courteous, so understanding, and she did not brush me off with that answer "Sorry, we can't help you because it's short notice".

Within 20 minutes she called me back with a long list of dishes she can make for me in that short time.  Aaand she would let me borrow her dishes.  I wanted to cry.

Of course, being human, she was limited to the number of dishes she could make do to the fact that she had about 6 hours to make them, plus she had other orders on the same day.  So, it goes without saying that I was grateful.  In fact, grateful was an understatement.

Fast forward a few hours, the evening arrived, the set up was done, and the food...........the food was divine.  It was so delicious I didn't even have a chance to take a decent photo.

Here's what I ordered, all pictures were taken off the BerrisCatering instagram account:

Kale and spelt soup - I was eating this for the next 3 days.  The heartiest soup you'll ever have.

Baked tortellini in pink sauce - decadent and full of flavor.  My kids loved this the most.

Veal scallops in a lemon sauce with linguini - the veal was cooked to perfection and the linguini was drenched in a perfectly balanced sauce of lemon and cream. Sinful.

The menu also included homemade salads and garlic bread.

All in all, it was a perfect evening.  Thank you Nadine!
